BIG MUSIC WEEKS

FRANKLIN COUNTY--The Big Music Weeks of Summer begins this week as some of our friends play multiple gigs. Summer Sounds celebrates 30 years of concerts in Highgate. There are shows in Alburgh, Burlington, Essex and Essex Junction, Highgate, Milton, Montgomery, Morrisville, North Hero, Rouses Point, Sheldon, South Hero, South Burlington, and St. Albans City and Town.

SAVE THE DATE!

HIGHGATE--Save August 29 for the Summer Sounds surprise. We have a lot to celebrate and it's time to throw a party!
The All Arts Council and the Town of Highgate will wrap the 30th year of Summer Sounds concerts at home in Highgate with a Summer Blowout Bash on the new stage on the Highgate Arena lawn on Sunday, August 29. Lots of continuous music from Jenni Johnson, Carol Ann Jones, and a host of popular singers. Games. Fair food. More. It's going to be great!

SOUNDS OF SUMMER!

HIGHGATE--Desorcie's Market, the All Arts Council, and the Town of Highgate continue the 30th year of Summer Sounds concerts at home in Highgate with Anderson-Gram on the new stage on the Highgate Arena lawn on Sunday evening at 7 p.m.
Gayle Anderson and Bob Gram play an easy-going blend of folk, country, and bluegrass, often originals that paint pictures of everyday life. She has a fine contralto folk voice, often called a "little bit sweet" and usually takes the lead. He brings the strong baritone harmonies as well as lead vocals and tells jokes almost as good as mine. They have played together since they met at an open mic 30 years ago.
The husband and wife duo spent two decades performing in California and are back in New England. They have played Bethlehem Musikfest, Cambridge Center For the Arts, San Francisco Folk Festival, Seafest of Nova Scotia, Sonoma Songwriters Showcase, and many more.
Anderson-Gram can be heard on folk and acoustic radio stations and radio shows across North America, in Belgium, and in Siberia. They have released a new CD, The Season, and four other albums, Across the Great Divide, Ring of Fire, Small Town Saturday Night, and Cover to Cover. Click here for physical albums and digital downloads.
Just before the concert, come to the Summer Sounds Social in the Park starting at 6 p.m.
The Summer Sounds concerts are sponsored by the Town of Highgate and the All Arts Council, and underwritten by Chevalier Drilling Co. Inc, Desorcie's Market, Drummac Septic Service, Hampton Inn of St. Albans, O. C. McCuin and Sons, and Ray's Extrusion Dies and Tubing.
The community based All Arts Council brings the performing arts to northwestern Vermont. The concerts are always on Sunday evenings, always at 7 p.m., always on the Highgate Arena Lawn, and always free. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair for the outdoor family music and festivities. The rain site is the Highgate United Methodist Church. Click here for more info.

RESTART NEWS

Vermont reported 565 new COVID-19 cases last week, a ten-fold increase. 12 of those were here in Franklin County where there is a "high" community transmission of the virus. The seven-day average test positivity rate jumped again to 3.1%, the highest it has been since February. 84.6% of eligible Vermonters have received at least one shot giving us the highest vaccination rate in the nation but Franklin County lags a bit with 74.9% with at least one shot and
My own advice hasn't changed. Get the shot(s) and take precautions. The vaccines are extraordinarily effective but nothing is 100% foolproof. Wash your hands. Wear a mask where you can't control the airflow around you until we reach the same herd immunity we have for smallpox and once had but lost for measles. Bonus: it will also help protect you from pollen, summer colds, and the winter flu.

ST. ALBANS--According to Publisher's Weekly, "The theory ... that book sales rose last year because people were reading more has been borne out in part by a survey recently released by the U.S. Department of Labor. According to the American Time Use survey, reading among people 15 years old and up increased by 21% in the May-December period in 2020 over the same period in 2019. The data shows that reading of all kinds increased from just under 17 minutes per day in 2019 in the same timeframe to just over 20 minutes in the comparable period last year."
Find the Eloquent Page on Facebook or click here for more info.
