Franklin County's arts and music gatherings bring new opportunities, gossip, "show-and-tell" and occasional workshops. There are also booked and acoustic Open Mic Nights that feature music, readings, and more from the best new artists in Vermont.

"We've kept most of the wolves and other beasts from the YTV door until recently," Mark Sustic said. Young Tradition Vermont is beginning to struggle financially; the immediate future is discouraging. FACING THE MUSIC
YTV's three largest annual investments are the Touring Group, Young Tradition Festival and Trad Camp. The income they budgeted disappeared with the shutdown. Online events have had many times as many viewers, but steadily fewer and fewer and fewer contributors. They have gotten very few donations from online events since early June and have may have to suspend donation-based online events.
"For the short term we are able to continue, but longer term the current approach is not sustainable," Mr. Sustic said. Young Tradition is not the Lone Ranger in this. Most artists and non-profit groups are struggling in this evolving social and financial climate.
The concerts and events help support performing and teaching artists who have seen most of their income evaporate during the continued pandemic.
Young Tradition hasn't asked viewers to pay "admission" but they do plan to experiment with some alternative approaches before suspending these concerts and activities. Most of their streamed events remain on the Facebook page and contributions can be made there before, during, or after the shows. There are a variety of events stored there now. And, of course, contributions can always go to YTV on PayPal.
Vermont has a statewide mask mandate in effect. The state of emergency continues through September 15 or later. The state 14-day quarantine limit continues. CANCELLATION (AND RESTART) NEWS
58 people in Vermont have died after contracting the coronavirus. 133,275 people (about 21.4% of the Vermont population) have been tested although a negative test result yesterday says nothing about an individual's health today. We need a daily test that costs ten cents and gives results in ten minutes. Vermont has a seven-day average test positivity of 0.4 percent, 1,616 current cases (up from 1,557 last week), with 63 new cases reported by CDC this past week although HealthVermont reported 11 new. It is an interesting, ongoing disparity. St. Albans City and Town have no new cases but remain the hot spot of Franklin County.
With the school year starting on Tuesday, Vermont Health Commissioner Mark Levine is considering a flu vaccine requirement for all K-12 students. No decision has been made yet.
The Meeting House on the Green continues Live at 5 monthly.
Art Basel Miami has canceled. Vermont has canceled all county fairs, field days, and festivals for 2020. The 30th Summer Sounds concert series will return in 2021. The 99th annual Champlain Valley Fair, the entire 2020 season at the Opera House at Enosburg Falls, Summer Music at Grace, and many Young Tradition events have been canceled.
ST. ALBANS--The Artist In Residence Gallery features different artists each month. This month, the spotlight is on visual artist and potter Barbara Colgrove, painter and photographer Barbara Flack, watercolor and textile artist Trish Vaillancourt, and painter and photographer Natalie LaRocque. The monthly Featured Artists are celebrated online and on Facebook. ART ON THE WALLS
The Artist in Residence art cooperative features paintings, fiber arts, stained glass, sculpture, lamps, pottery, folk art boxes, scarves, hats and more by 40 Franklin County and surrounding area artists. It is owned and operated by the artists and sponsors. The gallery on South Main Street is open Thursday-Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Click here for more info.
MILTON--The Milton Artists' Guild artist pop-up features two artists at the Guild on Saturday from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. They will display new work, demonstrate, and explain their process.
MAG's artist pop-ups will feature artists every Saturday with appropriate social distancing. "This way, we can support our artists, and create a special and fun weekend destination. Come and meet the artists on Saturdays, while the Guild is open." Kimberlee Anne Forney and Gerry Conlon were on tap last Saturday. Find them on Facebook for more info.
SWANTON--The regular Swanton Arts Council board meeting and update will be held via Zoom on Monday (Labor Day) at 6 p.m. IN THE ARTS COUNCILS

ST. ALBANS--St. Albans Community Arts hosts its regular Community Arts MeetUp via email on Tuesday; email to attend. They have a Board Meeting and a Creative Meetup on the second Tuesday of each month. The gatherings discuss new and ongoing business, and any creative ideas that crop up. St. Albans Community Arts needs you to help bring arts into the community. Their events include art walks and Make Music Day, an art wall in Houghton Park, and more.
SWANTON--The Swanton Arts Council Adult Virtual Art Journaling Meetup happens via Zoom on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The group can guide participants with items found around the home and supplies from the SPL Makerspace. The meetup takes place every Tuesday and is free and open to all.

Thursday ON STAGE LIVE
SOUTH HERO--The Snow Farm Concert Series presents the rockin' dance rhythms of Band X this evening starting at 6 p.m. The concert is SOLD OUT.
Admission is $15. Only 150 tickets will be sold per event.
Friday
BURLINGTON--Young Tradition Vermont and the Burlington Violin Shop host Eleanor Freebern, Fiona Stowell, and Emmett Stowell in a live performance in front of the shop on Friday during the lunch hour. Oliver Scanlon, Ceile Kronick, and Ava White were live last Friday.

All social-distancing and mask guidance applies--no seating, no major congregating, and no paper money or coinage. Audience members can support the musicians via Venmo or PayPal at the performance or anytime at PayPal.
SWANTON--The Swanton Chamber of Commerce hosts a Picnic & Music on the Village Green, a socially-distanced outdoor concert featuring Seth Yacovone, on Friday at 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

NORTH HERO--The Hubcats play live in the Steamship Bar at North Hero House on Friday at 5:30 p.m. Vermont's own duo of Fred Brauer, Stewart Foster, and sometimes Jim blend folkgrass, art folk, and pop.

ST. ALBANS--Mill River Brewing hosts a Live Music and Charity Evening with Nashville star Kinsey Rose for two shows on Friday at 5:30 and 7:10 p.m.
There are some special requirements: Reservations are necessary and only four-top tables for 1.5 hours are available. The cost is $25 to reserve a table; 50% goes to a local charity. Reservations must be made and confirmed by phone (802.582.4182). Find the event on Facebook for more info.

SHELDON--The Abbey presents Nashville's Kinsey Rose live in a free concert on the Back 40 on Saturday at 6:30 p.m., weather permitting or in the Pub if it rains.
The singer/songwriter brings powerful vocals. She is an artist in residence at the Legend's Corner on Broadway and has toured extensively in the US, UK, Scotland, Denmark, France, and Norway. Her recent album, Fair Weather Love, features Vince Gill.

ST. ALBANS--Eleven returns with new songs and a revamped set list at Bronson's Landing on Saturday at 8 p.m.
Scott Guptill, guitar and vocals; Taylor Arsenault, vocals; and Scott Belisle, bass and vocals make up the rock n roll trio with a musical barrage of hits from the 70s to the 90s.

Summer Sounds favorite John Bartus' Perpetual Island Tour will perform a new Social Distancing Concert Live from the Florida Keys, thanks to Facebook Live every Friday at 7:30 p.m. Last week's concert, live from the patio stage at Boondocks on Summerland Key, is on Facebook.

Andrew Lloyd Webber will stream his musicals in the free YouTube series, The Shows Must Go On, every Friday at 7 p.m. for 48 hours. A new show begins tomorrow. Clips of famous performances and behind-the-scenes footage also appear on the channel beside the full shows.

Sunday
Summer Sounds favorite Mark Shelton will perform a new concert on Facebook on Sunday around 11 a.m. He was live with a gospel concert from home, on Facebook last Sunday.
Chandler Center for the Arts presents the 28th New World Festival, despite Covid-19, on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
The celebration of Celtic and French Canadian music will stream music live from the main stage in Randolph and via virtual performances from around the world, as well as include a small, socially-distanced live audience to hear Pete's Posse, Dan Houghton, and Rachel Clemente on the Chandler Music Hall stage.
A ticketed, virtual option will allow an unlimited number of fans to stream the live performance. Admission is $20. Click here for tickets for both the In-Person and Live stream options. Patrons will receive an email with a link to connect to the live stream.
Tuesday
OURCONCERTS.LIVE presents Grammy winning Cajun songwriter and fiddler Michael Doucet and Appalachian fiddler, Grammy-nominee Bruce Molsky on Tuesday at 8 p.m. Admission is $15.

The 'cast brings the shelves of MCLD to life as the librarians connect with books, music and apps available at your library with a fresh episode each week.
