ST. ALBANS--Mayor Tim Smith has proclaimed April 1 through April 30 as National Poetry Month in the City of St. Albans. He has called upon public officials, educators, librarians, and all the people of St. Albans to observe this month, to celebrate the cultural riches our community has to offer, and to recognize the important role poetry has in creating and sustaining this great nation by hosting appropriate ceremonies, activities, and programs. AROUND THE COUNTY--Gov. Phil Scott said Monday that the state is entering a new phase of the response to the virus. COVID-19 SAFETY
Many events on calendars in the area may move online or have been postponed. While all presenters and artists love performing live, it is more important that all members of the community stay safe; that includes the difficulty cleaning and sanitizing particularly the volunteer run venues. CDC also recommends that organizers cancel or postpone in-person events that consist of 50 people or more throughout the U.S.
All bars and restaurants have ceased on-site service to slow the spread of the coronavirus. "This measure ... is in effect until April 6, though this could be extended," the Governor's Office announced in a news release. The statewide order permits delivery and pick-up service of food to continue but it cancels or postpones all the live music at these venues.

You're housebound? Your show is cancelled or postponed? You're bored? How about putting on a show?
Get the band together and video a rehearsal every day. Or set up your easel and video a painting coming together. Read a few pages from your novel or a short story or a poem. Get in costume and video that play or the dance. Do some improv in your living room.
We're locked down, too, and missing you. You'll get in a session and we'll like seeing you. Please share your efforts with your local arts council, too. And if the artist has a donation button, the audience can express appreciation through PayPal, Venmo, or other services.
Summer Sounds favorite John Bartus will perform a Social Distancing Concert Live from the Florida Keys from his studio in Marathon, Florida, thanks to Facebook Live on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Mr. Bartus will play a selection of his original songs plus some tasty and appropriate covers. "I look forward to sharing an evening of music with you, and I hope you’ll be able to tune in!" It's on Facebook.com .

THE COSMOS PRIZE (March 31)--Cosmos was an ambitious serial novel orchestrated by the staff of Science Fiction Digest (later Fantasy Magazine) beginning in June, 1933. The story of Cosmos spanned 17 chapters written by 16 different authors but many have thought the final chapter was a less than perfect ending. NIKON SMALL WORLD COMPETITION 2020 (April 30)--The two competitions are open to anyone with an interest in photography through the microscope: the Nikon Small World Contest and Nikon Small World In Motion Contest Photomicrographs must be taken using a light microscope. All types of light microscopy and specimens are acceptable. The use of Nikon equipment is not required. No Entry Fee. Click here for the details and to enter.

The selection has stories for the littlest listeners, elementary, tween, and teen, as well as literary classics (get that homework reading done), folk and fairy tales for all, stories in French, and more. AROUND THE COUNTY--Franklin County libraries are temporarily closed but patrons may still check out books and movies at most. Check with yours to determine what changes they've made. They will arrange for you to pick them up or deliver them if they can. The libraries also have a wide selection of electronic books and audiobooks.
