HIGHGATE--Desorcie's Market, the All Arts Council, and the Town of Highgate continue 29 years of Summer Sounds concerts at home with the VT Bluegrass Pioneers for their first appearance in Highgate on Sunday evening at 7 p.m. A PLUCKIN' GOOD TIME
The exciting new Vermont Bluegrass Pioneers band unites the talents of three beloved, veteran bluegrass musicians. Brothers Dan and Willy Lindner, the co-founders of Summer Sounds favorites Banjo Dan & the Midnite Plowboys are joined by guitarist and dynamic lead singer Danny Coane who played with the Throbulators and the Radio Rangers, and, since 1998, with Vermont’s nationally award-winning honky tonk heroes, the Starline Rhythm Boys.
Just before the concert, come to the Summer Sounds Social in the Park starting at 6 p.m. The special Intermission and Social event is a chance to visit with friends and eat hearty.
The Summer Sounds concerts are sponsored by the Town of Highgate and the All Arts Council, and underwritten by Chevalier Drilling Co. Inc, Desorcie's Market, Drummac Septic Service, La Quinta Inn and Suites of St. Albans, O. C. McCuin and Sons, and Ray's Extrusion Dies and Tubing.
The community based All Arts Council brings the performing arts to northwestern Vermont. The concerts are always on Sunday evenings, always at 7 p.m., always in Highgate Municipal Park, and always free. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair for the outdoor family music and festivities. ST. ALBANS--City Hall hosts the Relay for Life "Christmas in July" Craft Show on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. Multiple crafters will have crafts for sale to benefit Hope Lodge, Look Good Feel Better, and Road to Recovery programs for cancer patients. Lunch will be available. ART FOR THE HOUSE

SWANTON--Last Chance to See the Art at the Refuge exhibit. The Friends of Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge host the Refuge Art Show to celebrate World Migratory Bird Day and highlight the birds of the Refuge and their habitats. ST. ALBANS--The Saint Albans Museum presents The Last of the Hill Farms in the Bliss Room through August 10.
Photographer Richard Brown's recently published retrospective, The Last of the Hill Farms: Echoes of Vermont's Past, showcases the lives and landscapes from the 1970s on, but reflecting the livlihoods of the 19th Century.
"It was a world of Jersey cows and Belgian work horses, wood-burning Glenwoods, and dirt-floored basements full of canned applesauce, mustard pickles and stewed tomatoes in glinting rows on sagging wooden shelves," Mr. Brown said. "Autumn mornings, when the sharp fragrance of wood smoke and rotted manure laced the air, when the frost was thick on the land, and the maples began to blaze, I thought I'd died and gone to photographer's heaven."

ST. ALBANS--Vermont Folklife Center hosts the third annual Non-Fiction Comics Mini-Fest at the Saint Albans Museum on Saturday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. TRUTH FROM COMICS
The day-long Mini-Fest presents a mix of Vermont and regional cartoonists drawing science, politics, history, health care, and more to explore "non-fiction topics and the textures of lived experience."
The event includes three presentations. Glynnis Fawkes on her upcoming graphic biography of Charlotte Bronte before Jane Eyre at 11 a.m., Kurt Shaffert and Sarah Yahm on Cartooning through Trauma--The Unexpected Power of Comics and Veterans at 1 p.m., and Marek Bennett on his adaptation of The Civil War Diary of Freeman Colby at 3 p.m.

Mill River is a sustainable, family-owned, brewpub serving their own VT craft beers. The BBQ and Smokehouse menu offers locally raised meats and produce with baked goods made in-house.
ESSEX JUNCTION--On Tap offers Summer Sounds favorites Jenni Johnson and the Jazz Junketeers this evening at 7 p.m. Mackenzie & Missisquoi take over Friday at 5, followed by Nighthawk at 9 p.m.

ESSEX JUNCTION--Vermont's premier blues guitarist Nobby Reed plays a duo with Missisquoi Slim at the Double E on Friday at 6 p.m.
SHELDON--The Abbey continues the Summer Music in the Pub series with Dan Jarvis on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
ROUSES POINT--Latitude 45 welcomes S.A.S. as they bring back Friday Night Live Music with a bang on Friday at 6 p.m.
There is plenty of room for dancing and mingling, all right on the shores of Lake Champlain.
MILTON--Arrowhead Golf Course hosts Carol Ann Jones and Will Patton for the Friday Night Live Music and Buffet on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Friday's theme is "Circus!" The pork roast buffet starts around 7 p.m. Both run until 9 p.m.
The buffet costs $11 per person ($5 for each child). You don't have to be a member; the public is welcome. Be sure to come early, usually around 6, to get a good seat.

SOUTH BURLINGTON--Higher Ground hosts the 9th annual Girls Rock Vermont Showcase in the Showcase Lounge on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Doors at 12 noon.
Girls Rock is a one-week summer day camp. Campers learn how to play musical instruments, write songs, perform their own music, and participate in workshops and activities.
Admission is $5 with kids 12 and under free.
ST. ALBANS--14th Star Brewing Company presents Revolver on the taproom stage on Saturday at 6 p.m.
The Vermont cover band plays classic and current rock music.
ST. ALBANS--Rough Suspects return to Mill River Brewing BBQ & Smokehouse for another special acoustic show in the Biergarten on Saturday at 7 p.m. Sit down for "rock, blues, and drunken country ... just like mama used to make."

HIGHGATE--Desorcie's Market continues 29 years of Summer Sounds concerts in Highgate with The Vermont Pioneers for their first appearance in Highgate on Sunday evening at 7 p.m.
Tuesday
ENOSBURG FALLS--The Enosburg Town Band plays a weekly free summer concert in Lincoln Park on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Bring a chair or a blanket to enjoy an hour long concert under the stars under the direction of Alisa Martin. Performances will continue on Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m. through August 21.
Wednesday
ST. ALBANS--Still Kickin' continues the Downtown Summer Concert Series in the E.A. Loomis Bandshell in Taylor Park on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. 14th Star Brewing and the Traveling Canteen serve food and drink at all of this year's Summer Concert Series events.
Admission is free.
ST. ALBANS--The Bayside presents the Starline Rhythm Boys on Wednesday at 6 p.m. No cover, just "three old guys playin' country" every Wednesday evening through the summer.
MORRISVILLE--The Wednesday Night Live summer music series continues with Soulstice in Oxbow Riverfront Park on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. There will be sculpture in the River Arts tent. The series continues each week through August 22. There will be a rotating mix of food vendors every week, from American barbecue to Nepalese staples.
ST. ALBANS--The Citizens Concert Band plays a free concert in St. Albans Bay Town Park on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

SHELBURNE--Young Tradition Trad Camp presents a special performance by the core instructors Pete Sutherland, Brian Perkins, Jane Oxnard, Anna Butcher, Jeremiah McLane, and Sarah Hotchkiss, showcasing traditional tunes, songs, and dance at the Shelburne Farms Farm Barn on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. TRAD CAMP
Trad Camp is a concentrated opportunity for kids 8-16 years old to be inspired by, learn about and perform tunes, songs, and dances in a variety of traditional styles. Campers participate in several group sessions with a variety of core staff and guest instructors, who are among the best and most respected musicians and teachers in the region, and a few from other parts of the world.
MONTGOMERY CENTER-- Montgomery Center for the Arts hosts the Endangered Alphabets Project, the Art of Tim Brookes in MCAKeltonHall on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 12 noon - 4 p.m. FRANKLIN COUNTY BOOKSHELF
The world has perhaps 140 alphabets, more than a third of which are on the verge of extinction. When a writing system is abandoned or suppressed, an entire culture loses its ability to read its own history, its literature, its folklore, its medicine. The Endangered Alphabets Project preserves these scripts, carved in gorgeous woods, and each carving raises countless questions about language, progress, globalization and the importance of indigenous cultures.
Mr. Brookes is the founder of the Endangered Alphabets Project, which makes him an artist, a writer, a painter and wood carver. He is also the author of 16 books, a 20-year commentator for National Public Radio, a humorist, a professional guitarist, and soccer coach.
