     Franklin County's arts and music gatherings bring new opportunities, gossip, "show-and-tell" and occasional workshops. There are also booked and acoustic Open Mic Nights that feature music, readings, and more from the best new artists in Vermont.

THE GREATEST GENERATION

      Boys became men in the largest amphibious invasion in history 75 years ago today. We have lost many of those men but we must never lose their memory.


THURSDAY IS MUSIC NIGHT

ST. ALBANS--The Old Foundry at One Federal brings out the "real deal," the Starline Rhythm Boys, to kick off the Thursday Night Music Series this evening at 7 p.m.
      Vermont's premier honky-tonk and rockabilly trio are a full time, drummer-less "Tennessee-style trio." They bring strong instrumentals and tight, powerful, country harmony duet vocals. Call 802.524.0330 or Call 802.524.0330 or find them on Facebook for more info.


VERMONT DAYS

     Enjoy a free sample of Vermont excellent fishing, state parks, and historic culture this weekend. Vermont Days is an annual weekend each June that celebrates the arrival of summer.
      Admission to the Saint Albans Museum on Saturday is free as SAM joins with parks and historic sites across Vermont to promote time well-spent out and about in the State.
      Admission is free to your choice of Vermont state parks including Lake Carmi State Park in Franklin, Burton Island State Park in St. Albans Bay, and Woods Island State Park in Swanton. Fishing is free at any Fish & Wildlife fishing access -- no license required for the day. Enjoy complimentary entry at State Historic Sites as well as to the Vermont History Museum in Montpelier or the Vermont History Center in Barre. Click here for more info.


ART ON THE WALLS

ST. ALBANS--The Artist In Residence Gallery features different artists each month. This month, the spotlight is on stained and fused glass artist Jennifer Buckner, fiber artist Dorothy Grazier, muralist painter and photographer Natalie La Rocque, and rustic wood folk artist Ron Turek.
      The A.I.R. gallery hosts a free meet-the-artists reception with refreshments and a raffle today 4:30 - 7 p.m. The exhibit continues through the end of June.
      The Artist in Residence art cooperative features paintings, fiber arts, stained glass, sculpture, lamps, pottery, folk art boxes, scarves, hats and more by 40 Franklin County and surrounding area artists. It is owned and operated by the artists and sponsors. The gallery on South Main Street is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Click here for more info.


ST ALBANS--The Northwestern Medical Center Gallery hosts Vermont photographer Jim Greene in a solo show this month. Mr. Green "dabbles" at capturing "moments in time." He tells a story with each picture.
      There's an eclectic variety of images. His exhibit includes First Sight which was his son's first meeting with his new baby daughter. Fanning the Fire is a sunset photo with the NY windmills silhouetted in the background. The centerpiece is The Final Salute, his expression of gratitude to these men and women who gave their all.       The show continues through the end of June.


ART YOU CREATE

MONTGOMERY--The Montgomery Center for the Arts continues a Figure Drawing Workshop in the LAB at MCAKeltonHall today at 5 p.m. The workshop carries on every Thursday through December 26. Each week a very groovy group of artists gather to work and socialize.


IN THE ARTS COUNCILS

ST. ALBANS--St. Albans Community Arts hosts its monthly Community Arts MeetUp in City Hall on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The gathering will discuss new and ongoing business, meet new people, and discuss any creative ideas that crop up.


SWANTON--The Swanton Arts Council will film the Year of the Salmon at the Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon - 5 p.m.
      The Year of the Salmon script was written in a writing slam that weaves fictional characters with facts provided by the Refuge to tell the story of this natural heritage. The Lake Champlain Basin Program provided a 2019 Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership Local Heritage Grant for the community generated original film.

SWANTON--SAC will hold a Swanton Arts Spectacular Planning Meeting at the Swanton Free Public Library on Monday at 6 p.m.

MAYOR'S PHOTO COMPETITION

ST. ALBANS--The Mayor's Photo Competition is accepting entries for 2019 with a theme of Lakes, Rivers and Waterways. This year's event will benefit the Friends of Northern Lake Champlain and the Missisquoi River Basin Association. The public photo voting event is scheduled for July 11 at City Hall.
      Email electronic files for 8 inch by 10 inch photos to Tim Smith . There is no fee to enter. The deadline to enter is June 30th. Click here for more info and updates about the competition.


DISCOVER JAZZ

BURLINGTON--The ten day Discover Jazz Festival continues with live music for all ages through Sunday. There is free live music on four stages downtown Burlington, headlining shows at the Flynn and the Waterfront Tent, and nightly showcases in restaurants and venues all over the city.
      The Festival brings together young artists, local talent, and jazz legends for more than 100 free outdoor performances, meet-the artist sessions, professional and student bands on Church Street Marketplace, and incredible live shows at venues all over town. Many of the musicians live in Franklin County or have played here.

ST. ALBANS--Twiggs presents the vibrant stylings of Cooie & Sergio on Thursday, English blues guitarist Tom Caswell's Duet on Friday, and the old school blues of Blue Fox on Saturday. Shows begin at 7 p.m.

ST. ALBANS--14th Star Brewing Company presents the Shane Murley Band live on the taproom stage on Friday at 6 p.m.
      The six-piece band from Hinesburg brings a soulful and funky twist on classic Americana, country, and alternative rock.


EAST FAIRFIELD--Summer Evenings with Vermont Treasures presents singer/songwriter Ben Patton at the Meeting House on the Green on Friday at 7 p.m. Doors at 6:30.
      Since 2004 the Franklin County native has written and produced eight solo albums of his "quirky retro-pop," five albums in the rock duo Muller and Patton, and dozens of songs for other artists.
      Light supper fare, beer and wine will be available throughout the evening. Admission is by $10 suggested donation at the door. All proceeds from the concert series support the Meeting House Preservation Project. Click here for more info.

BARRE--K's Korner at Twin City Lanes and 14th Star Brewing Company host K's Summer Kick Off Bash with music by Contagious on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. The three-piece cover band has a drummer, lead/rhythm guitarist/male vocalist, and a female vocalist.


MONTGOMERY--Celebration of the Expressive Arts hosts the Zeichner Trio returning to the The INN for a special dinner concert on Saturday at pm.

ST. Albans--Mill River Brewing has Uncle Jimmy to entertain lovers of rowdy music on Saturday at 7 p.m.


Tuesday
ENOSBURG FALLS--The Enosburg Town Band summer concerts begin on the Lincoln Park bandstand on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
      The band does not provide chairs so plan to bring a favorite lawn chair or blanket. The rain site is the Enosburg Falls High School Auditorium. All concerts are free and open to the public. Concerts will continue in Lincoln Park every Tuesday night through August 13.


Wednesday
ST. ALBANS--Twiggs continues the Monthly Blues Jam on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
      On the second Wednesday of each month, the gastropub will host an explosive evening of electric blues. All musicians are welcome to come and play the blues with the house band of Tom Caswell, guitar and vocals; Tom Buckley, bass; and Michael Bishop, drums.
