     Franklin County's arts and music gatherings bring new opportunities, gossip, "show-and-tell" and occasional workshops. There are also booked and acoustic Open Mic Nights that feature music, readings, and more from the best new artists in Vermont.

ART FOR THE HOUSE

ST. ALBANS--The March Basket is here. Each month the Artist in Residence Gallery raffles a basket packed full of goods. The baskets contain themed art, gifts, wearables and home goods. At least one artist from the gallery will have art included each month.
      Tickets are $5 and the value of the basket is far over $100. Each month the basket winner will be chosen at the Featured Artist reception; this basket winner will be chosen March 7.


IN THE ARTS COUNCILS

MILTON--The Milton Artists’ Guild hosts a celebratory meet-and-greet reception for new Executive Director Jessie Swetel at the MAG center this evening at 5 p.m. The regular MAG meeting will follow at 6:30.


SWANTON--The Swanton Arts Council Writer's Group will meet at the Swanton Free Public Library this evening at 6 p.m. Members can share progress and join in the discussion about longer projects and anything else about writing, reading, publishing, and more.

SWANTON--Model citizens gather for Live Model Sketching and Community Involvement at the joint informational meeting of the Select Board and Village Trustees on Monday at 7 p.m.
      Bring anything to sketch, paint or doodle on as you listen to what goes on at this meeting. Come early for the chili contest and get a free dinner too. All are welcome.


MMMM, BREAKFAST

ENOSBURG--The Friends of the Opera House and Lincoln Lodge 78 have a Pancake Breakfast at the Enosburg American Legion Post 42 on Sunday from 9 a.m. - noon.
      Admission is by a suggested donation of $8 for adults or $5 for children. Proceeds benefit the Opera House and Lincoln Lodge. Call 802.933.6171 or click here for more info.


STORYTELLING OPEN MIC

ST. ALBANS--Northwest Public Access offers the first Storytelling Open Mic at the studio on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
      With a theme of "See It Everywhere," storytellers should bring a true story about seeing a person, place or thing wherever you roam. "Make us laugh, cry or amaze us with your 5-8 minute story." Come early to enjoy music by Jack McCarthy.

ON STAGE LIVE

Thursday
ST. ALBANS--BFA Improv is back and it's hosted by the Grind Cafe this evening at 6 p.m.
      The Improv team is coming for a night of laughs for free. Think Who's Line Is It Anyway, and see that the audience may even get to join in.


SOUTH HERO--The Blue Paddle Bistro presents Carol Ann Jones in a solo singer-songwriter performance in the main dining room on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Ms. Jones will appear the third Thursday of each month.

ESSEX JUNCTION--On Tap offers Summer Sounds favorite Jenni Johnson and the Jazz Junketeers tonight at 7 p.m. On Tap has music on Tuesday through Saturday nights. Call 802.878.3309 or email for more info.


Friday
SHELDON--The Abbey's Friday Nights Music with singer/songwriters Chris and Erica in the Winter Music Series draws to a close this Friday at 7 p.m. The local duo have won acoustic performer contests and have opened for Jamie Lee at Higher Ground.


ALBURGH--Friday Night Rocks the American Legion Post 60 as S.A.S. kicks off the weekend with their first trip there on Friday at 8 p.m. Scott Guptill, April Reynolds Begnoche, and Scott Belisle bring "classic rock with a twist" with songs from the 70s to the 90s.


Friday-Saturday
ST. ALBANS--Twiggs presents Elmore singer songwriter Christine Malcolm Trio on Friday, then the melodic intricacy of Fred, Stewart, and sometimes Jim of the Hubcats on Saturday. Shows begin at 7 p.m.

Saturday
SOUTH BURLINGTON--The Rock and Roll Playhouse returns to the Higher Ground Ballroom with the Music of The Beatles for Kids on Saturday at 12 noon. Doors at 11 a.m.
      The show allows kids to "move, play and sing while listening to works from the classic-rock canon." Admission is $15 and children under 1 are admitted free. Click here for tickets and more info.


ST. ALBANS--14th Star Brewing Company presents Tim Brick on the taproom stage on Saturday at 6 p.m.
      The singer songwriter offers original country music with a down home sound. He won the 2017 Tammie Award for Best Country Album. His fourth album is Just Passin' Through.


SHELDON--The Abbey hosts some new entertainment with laughs for a great cause at the Sheldon School Standup fundraiser featuring comedians EJ Edmonds, AJ Hapenny, Sarah Martin, and Ed Waugh on Saturday at 6 p.m.
      Admission is $25 for the turkey dinner, silent auction, and the show. Proceeds go to the eighth-grade class. Call Krissy (802.393.1442) or email for more info.


ESSEX JUNCTION--The Double E presents Reed and Slim on Saturday at 7 p.m. Put Nobby and Missisquoi together on stage and magic happens.


ST. ALBANS--Saturday is Coyote Ugly Night with Brooklyn's MissMay Day at Nelly's at 9:30 p.m.
      Cover is $5 at the door.


Sunday
KEY COLONY BEACH, FL--Island Band continues the Key Colony Beach Community Association's Concert in the Park series in Sunset Park on Sunday at 4 p.m.
      Concerts in the Park are free concerts sponsored by the KCBCA. Concerts started with John Bartus' 35th Anniversary Tour and take place most Sunday afternoons. Bring a chair or blanket and refreshments. Parking is limited so walking, biking or ride sharing is recommended.


Wednesday
ST. ALBANS--Twiggs (finally) begins its new Monthly Blues Jam on Wednesday at 7 p.m. "After having to cancel the blues jam in January and February due to heavy snow, I'm excited to say the blues jam at Twiggs will officially launch" this Wednesday.
      Normally on the second Wednesday of each month, the gastropub will host an explosive evening of electric blues. All musicians are welcome to come and play the blues with the house band of Tom Caswell, guitar and vocals; Tom Buckley, bass; and Michael Bishop, drums.
