MONTGOMERY--The Montgomery Center for the Arts continues a Figure Drawing Workshop in the LAB at MCAKeltonHall today at 5 p.m. The workshop carries on every Thursday this year. Each week a very groovy group of artists gather to work and socialize. ART YOU CREATE
ST. ALBANS--American Legion Post 1 hosts a Paint & Sip on Slate fundraiser on Friday at 6 p.m.

SWANTON--The Swanton Arts Council Writer's Group will meet at the Swanton Free Public Library this evening at 6 p.m. Members can share progress and join in the discussion about longer projects and anything else about writing, reading, publishing, and more. IN THE SAC

Thursday-Sunday ON STAGE LIVE
MONTPELIER--The Spice on Snow winter folk and Cajun music festival features the Young Tradition Touring Group, the Green Mountain Playboys, the Hokum Brothers, and about 60 national headliners at the Summit School and other locations, beginning today and continuing through Sunday.
The four-day celebration of roots and contemporary folk music features outstanding Cajun and old time musicians from Louisiana and Southern Appalachia, together with premier touring folk musicians and regional performers. There are concerts, dances, workshops, family events, jam sessions and free performances, city-wide.

SHELDON--The Abbey hosts Friday Nights Music with the Winter Music Series beginning this Friday at 7 p.m. The series continues through February 22. Singer-songwriter Sean Jarvis kicks off the nights with new original music.

ST. ALBANS--Twiggs presents singer/songwriters Chris and Erica on Friday and the rock, blues, and the odd country song of John Howell on Saturday. Shows begin at 7 p.m.

ST. ALBANS--The Swanton Arts Council brings you Scott Martell and his friends, the Anton Umber Trio, at the Traveled Cup on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The expressive acoustic and electric singer-songwriter is visiting St. Albans to playing a mix of songs with his pals at the coffee shop.
SHELDON--The Abbey hosts Comedy with Al Hapenny, Ed Waugh, Sarah Martin, and EJ Edmonds as a fundraiser for the Sheldon 8th Grade Class on Saturday at 6 p.m.

ST. ALBANS--14th Star Brewing Company presents SoN oF a GuN live to light up the taproom stage on Saturday at 6 p.m. The energetic quintet plays the rock music of the 80's, 90's, and today.
ST. JOHNSBURY--Catamount Arts host Bluegrass Night with Summer Sounds favorite Bob Amos & Catamount Crossing plus this month's special guest Jim Rooney in the Catamount Arts Center on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Mr. Rooney is a 50-year veteran of the music business and recent winner of the International Bluegrass Music Association's Distinguished Achievement Award.
Admission is free but donations are always accepted.
XVIII VIDEOMINUTE INTERNATIONAL CONTEST (January 31)--The University of Zaragoza, Spain, calls for fiction or animation videos on any subject, each no longer than 1 minute (60 seconds). The film must be subtitled in Spanish or in English. Cash prizes. No Entry Fee. JANUARY-FEBRUARY ART DEADLINES
ART FOR THE COLUMBIA COLLEGE LITERARY REVIEW (February 4)--The annual journal of literature and art wants 2D artwork in any media, including photography, to be included in the 2019 edition. No entry fee. Use the Submittable online submission manager, linked through the website.
RECYCLE 2019 (February 24)-- The juried show calls for art crafted from cast-off, discarded and repurposed materials. The Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition will exhibit sophisticated 2-D and 3-D art; entries must incorporate at least 50 percent of repurposed, recycled or reused materials. Entry fee. Cash prizes. #802PHONESDOWN!HEADSUP! (April 1)--The Vermont Highway Safety Alliance Public Safety Announcement contest wants videos exactly 25 seconds long to help prevent serious car crashes and deaths due to distracted driving. High school students should create their entries as an individual or a team of two, post it to YouTube and then register it using the Planet Reg Registration Form. No entry fee.
