HUNKA SUMMER SOUNDS

HIGHGATE--Summer Sounds kicks off the 28th summer of music with the return of Elvis to the Highgate Municipal Park on Sunday, July 8 at 7 p.m. Desorcie's Market presents Mark Shelton, America's premiere Elvis impersonator; he may bring the Rat Pack, some Flower Power, and definitely the hunka hunka burnin' love.


SHORT HIATUS

      ArtBits is taking this week off as I travel up the East Coast with little access to my usual sources for receiving -- or sending -- news. In the meantime, here's a quick look at the events coming up over the next couple of weeks.


ART ON THE WALLS FOR JULY

ST. ALBANS--The Artist In Residence Gallery features different artists each month. The July spotlight is on Marcia Blanco, Paule Gingras, and Martha McGinn. The A.I.R. gallery hosts a free meet-the-artists reception with refreshments and a raffle on July 5 from 4:30 - 7 p.m. The new exhibit continues through the end of July.


ST ALBANS--The Northwestern Medical Center Gallery hosts painter El Towle starting about July 2. The show continues through the end of July.


ART FOR THE WALLS

SWANTON--Swanton Arts Council hosts Plein Air Painting on the Village Green on Saturday, June 30, at 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Call Leeza Mossey (802.370.4129)or email for more info. All welcome.

MAYOR'S PHOTO COMPETITION UPDATE

ST. ALBANS--The deadline for the 2018 St. Albans Mayor's Photo Competition has been extended. Submit 8x10 prints of your entries but the winning images must support enlargement to 20"x30". All photos and submissions must be received by Friday, July 6.

ST. ALBANS--14th Star Brewing Company and Wheeler del Torro host My Killer 80s Prom: A Bites 'n' Brew Murder Mystery Event on Saturday, June 30, at 6 p.m. Admission is $53.03. Click here for tickets and more info.


MONTGOMERY--The Montgomery Center for the Arts presents Summer Sounds favorites David Rosane and the Zookeepers for their album release and Summer Library Tour kick off fundraiser at MCAKeltonHall on Saturday, June 30, at 7 p.m. "Doors open at 7 and they close when we are done." HIGHGATE SPRINGS--The Citizens Concert Band plays a free concert at the Little White Church on Wednesday, July 11, at 7 p.m. The rain site is in the church.


MILTON--Carol Ann Jones, Will Patton, Gary Spaulding, and special guest Trevor Contois take over the Milton Bandshell at Bombardier Park on Wednesday, July 11, at 7 p.m.


SHELDON--Every Wednesday the Abbey throws a Beach Party with music, drink specials, and prizes, after the Volleyball, starting about 8:30 p.m.


CAMP!

EAST FAIRFIELD--The Fairfield Community Center Black Creek Adventure Camp begins eight weeks of laid back summertime fun, arts and crafts, cooking, gardens, sports, field trips, and friendships on June 25. FRANKLIN COUNTY BOOKSHELF

ENOSBURG--The Enosburgh Public Library hosts Reading Frederick Douglass 2018 on Monday, July 2, at 6 p.m. Join the group to read together the fiery July 5, 1852 speech in which abolitionist orator Frederick Douglass took exception to being asked to commemorate the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This is a participatory event by the Vermont Humanities Council.
