ART FOR THE WALLS
The cost is $35 plus an optional $10 donation at door for Franklin County Animal Rescue. That includes the canvas, painting location, paint, pre-sketched pet drawing
ST. ALBANS--Free Studio Fridays continues in the Claire Payne Studio on Friday from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. The studio is open to artists to get together and work at a studio in the company of other artists. It is all free; bring your own project and materials.
Claire Payne Studios is located in the renovated barn that is part of the Solomon Goodrich Homestead. These events began this month and will be held every Friday until October 26.

ST. ALBANS--Therapeutic Expressions has been a three-part art group to promote emotional healing at Voices Against Violence/Laurie's House. The final event will be held Tuesday at 4 p.m.

ART ON THE WALLS
ST. ALBANS--Twiggs hosts New Paintings -- 2018 Opening Event, works by Jon Young, on Friday at 7 p.m.
The event features 16 new paintings including the 12 Snowboard series. Mr. Young is the product and technical advisor for HK Holbein Artist Materials. He has exhibited watercolor, ink, oils, and acrylics in Burlington, St. Albans, and Seattle. He studied illustration at Massachusetts College of Art & Design, and oil painting at Johnson State College and lives in St. Albans. All paintings will be for sale.
LIVE IN THE HUMANITIES
The day-long workshop is a perfect start to that interview project you want to do with a favorite relative or friend. The workshop combines discussion of the theories and methods that inform oral history research with practical, hands-on training in oral history interview techniques.
Led by Vermont Folklife Center Director of Archives and Research Andy Kolovos, this workshop will help participants develop a plan for an oral history research project and will offer a forum for brainstorming ideas for public outreach based on interview findings. Attendees will also have ongoing access to Vermont Folklife Center staff for consultation as they later undertake their own oral history, ethnographic, and qualitative research projects.

ON STAGE LIVE
SCOTLAND--The Young Tradition Touring Group begins its Scotland performances in Glasgow today. The tour continues through April 29.
The Touring Group consists of 24 auditioned teen players, singers, and dancers who focus on learning and performing traditional music and dance repertoire, starting in September and ending in early May at Young Tradition Weekend. The group ranges in age from 12 to 20. Though most members are from throughout Vermont, the group also includes members from Western Massachusetts and the Adirondacks in New York State. They are supported by artist leaders Pete Sutherland, Dominque Dodge, and Andrea Beaton, youth leaders Rose Jackson and Oliver Scanlon, and manager Mark Sustic.

HIGHGATE--MVUHS presents the famed MVU Musical, Dream Bigger Big Fish in the Trahan Theater for a three day run, today through Saturday. Curtain time is 7 p.m. with a Saturday Matinee at 2 pm.
The new Broadway musical reveals the relationship between travelling salesman Edward Bloom and his adult son Will who asks his father not to tell any of his tall tales at his wedding. The story shifts between the present day and Edward's storybook past beginning as a teenager and encountering a Witch, a Giant, a Mermaid, and the love of his life, Sandra. The stories meet as Will discovers the secret his father never revealed. It has music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa and a book by John August.
Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for students.

ST. ALBANS--It's just ducky out there ... or snowy, or rainy, or perhaps a mudbath with comedians Liz Scharnetzki and Cori Marnellos, hosted by Abow Ibrahim plus the TNT Comedy Showcase on the Main Stage at Twiggs on TNT Comedy Thursday at 7 p.m. Doors at 6:30.
Suzan Ambrose hosts open mic. This is a free show for mature audiences and space has been filling up quickly; call Twiggs to reserve a table. Make dinner reservations prior to the show since only drinks, appetizers, and desserts will be served during the show.
Next up, Twiggs presents multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Jesse Taylor from Burlington on Friday and acoustic coffeehouse trio AmerikanaBlue on Saturday. Shows begin at 7 p.m.

ST. ALBANS--Singer-songwriter Mike McCarthy hosts Open Mic Night at 14th Star Brewing Company on Friday starting at 7 p.m. Sign up starts at 6. Share your talent at this special Open Mic at St. Albans veteran-owned brewery.
Saturday
ST. ALBANS--The Queen City Drag Cabaret sashays into Durty Nelly's on Saturday at 9 p.m.
The queens will bring a whole lotta fabulous for a 420-themed show.

HARDWICK--Carol Ann Jones reprises The Power of Music: Twelve Souls in Song at the Hardwick Town House on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
The show centers on a dozen senior citizens from the over 180 people in her journal to show music's power to connect with those beyond memory's reach. She tells their story and then sings their favorite songs. She plans to perform her show in all 14 counties in Vermont to bring awareness to the organization.
Admission is $15 (or more if you want) which goes directly to Music and Memory. Ms. Jones will collecting used iPods. The proceeds benefit Music and Memory to provide iPods for senior citizens who can use music to bring back some of their memories.
ESSEX JUNCTION--Backstage Pub has Justified Spring Fling Fever on Saturday evening at 9:30 p.m. The energetic dance/rock band with a splash of hard rock rocks music of the 70s to the 90s with some Alternative thrown in just because they can.
