ART ON THE WALLS

ST. ALBANS--The Artist In Residence Gallery features different artists each month. This month, the spotlight is on gourd artist Cathy Bohannon, weaver and painter Janice Decooman, carver Eddie Gagne, and metalsmith Cathy LaClaire.
Ms. Bohannon raises and prepares gourds to create unique vessels embellished with Lake Champlain driftwood as well as stones, feathers, and found objects. A life-long artist, Ms. Decooman, began weaving in traditional Navajo style in her mid-twenties. After a career teaching art in public schools, she has continued with more challenging woven work, then paints portraits on specially-made wood hangers to display her weaving. Mr. Gagne is a self-taught carver. He creates realistic duck decoys for hunting or for display. Ms. LaClaire has been making art all her life but she made her first pieces of jewelry in 2000. She works with freshwater pearls and natural gemstones.
The A.I.R. gallery hosts a free meet-the-artists reception with refreshments and a raffle today 4 - 7 p.m. The exhibit continues through the end of March.
The Artist in Residence art cooperative features paintings, fiber arts, stained glass, sculpture, lamps, pottery, folk art boxes, scarves, hats and more by 40 Franklin County and surrounding area artists. It is owned and operated by the artists and sponsors. The gallery, newly reopened at 10 South Main Street, is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Click here for more info.
